The emails I got from Iran

A message from Paula, director of the CENSORED WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL:

Dear Friends,

I wanted to share with you two emails I received from Iran. The emails came from two filmmakers who were applying to our Censored Women's Film Festival, the only film festival of its kind to give a platform to women's censored voices.

At first, we had trouble finding a venue that would give voice to these women, but we are delighted to have made a great connection with the Bild newspaper and their publisher, Axel Springer, in Berlin. They will be hosting the festival, planned for December.

Now that hurdle is behind us, I need to raise the money to hold the event! I am making an urgent appeal to you, to help with our crowdfunding campaign.

We have just 10 days left to reach our goal of $40,000 in order to hold our second-ever Censored Women's Film Festival.

Below are the emails from the two Iranian filmmakers who applied to our festival. They were concerned they would be unable to apply, as Iran prevents them from paying festival fees. We have, of course, allowed them to apply without the fee but this situation underscores the sort of censorship that filmmakers are facing on a daily basis. We are determined to give these heroes a platform for their voices.

We've nearly reached 40% of our goal, but we really need your help.

If you can donate to the campaign and share it with friends and family, I would be so appreciative. With your help, we can turn this into a global movement.

Best wishes,

Paula
